PLAYER SELECTION CRITERIA

 

Selection Criteria

The St. Albert Flyers will utilize the Hockey Alberta grading system.

            In addition emphasis will be placed on the following characteristics

-Speed and Pace

-Physicality

-Hockey Sense

-Character

-Communication

Selection will take place during the tryouts being held in St. Albert beginning on September 4 and 5, 2018

-Tryouts will consist of scrimmages on Tuesday September 4, 2018 and Wednesday September 5, 2018.

-Flyers coaches will be on the bench with each team.

-Time permitting each team will conduct a team building exercise during camp, prior to each ice session.

After the scrimmage on September 5^th Flyers coaches will be releasing players. Players chosen to continue with the tryout process will be listed on the Flyers website either the evening of September 5 or the morning of September 6.

To Become a Flyer we ask the following:

SPEED AND PACE

• Can you skate with speed and agility?
• Are you able to transition quickly?
• Are you first to pucks?
• Do you attack seams or play on the perimeter?
• Do you play with a tight gap?

PHYSICALITY

• Do you engage in battles, and can you win them?
• Can you use your body effectively?
• Do you shy away or can you play with contact?
• Do you initiate contact or are you on the receiving end? 

HOCKEY SENSE

• Can you play your position?
• Are you able to read the play?
• Are you able to adapt on the ice?
• Can you support the puck effectively?
• Do you know when to attack and when to contain/support?
• Can you make effective plays with the puck?
• Are you adaptable? 

CHARACTER

• Are you a team player?
• Are you a good person?
• Are you positive?
• Are you coachable?
• Are you willing to play a role? 

COMMUNICATION

• Do you call for pucks?
• Are you loud?
• Can you communicate effectively?
• Do you listen effectively?
• Are you engaged with teammates?
