The John Reid Memorial Society Scholarship was initially started in 2004-05 by a group of parents from the U15AAA (formerly known at the Bantam AAA) Sabres team. Most of these families knew the Reid family and wanted to do something that would create a Legacy for John Reid, give back to the Community and help athletes focus on future educational goals. Each of these 18 families gave $800.00 to start the Scholarship fund. This scholarship was always separate from the John Reid Hockey Tournament, even though the Award was given out during the JRMT Opening Ceremonies. The John Reid Memorial Tournament Society is a separate duly incorporated Society.
A $1,000/year Scholarship has been given out to Alberta residents that have played U15AAA (formerly known as Bantam AAA) hockey in St. Albert for at least three years and who will be attending full time Post Secondary Education.
Academic achievement in High School and Post Secondary education must be documented. Letters of Reference and a short essay are required, along with displays of leadership qualities, interests, community involvement and a passion for hockey. These are all qualities that were emulated by John Reid.
This year we are pleased to announce that the John Reid Memorial Society Scholarship will be $2,500.00 and will be given to a recipient that exhibits the above qualifications.
Deadline is February 29, 2024. All completed applications can be dropped off at 11 Paquette Place, St. Albert, AB, T8N5K9.
This Scholarship will be awarded annually in May. Donations are welcome to continue this Scholarship for years to come.
